Studying at Cambridge

Approved Foundation

A quasi-collegiate body which is incorporated under a trust instrument, and is governed by Trustees, a Council or other similar body. On achieving full financial independence and self-government an approved foundation normally evolves, with the university’s approval, into a fully-fledged college. The only Approved Foundation currently is Hughes Hall, which may only present mature or affiliated students for the junior degrees of BA and MusB.
