Bumps

Rowing races, so called because the narrowness of the river prevents overtaking, and the aim of each boat is to bump the one in front. See also Lents and May Races. For a comprehensive history, see J. Durack, G. Gilbert and J. Marks, The Bumps: an account of the Cambridge University bumping races, 1827-1999 (2000).
