The summer vacation, between Easter Term and Michaelmas Term, all of it now designated, at least by the Pocket Diary, a Research Period. In earlier centuries it was possible for undergraduates to complete their required ten terms’ residence by staying in Cambridge to study during this period, known as Long Vac[ation] Term, and some courses for medical students spilled over into this period also.
